  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cut into tablespoon pieces
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 medium ripe bananas mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons turbinado sugar for topping

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
  • Step 2: Grease your loaf pan with butter or cooking spray, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  • Step 4: In another bowl, combine the butter and brown sugar. Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  • Step 5: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Step 6: Stir in the mashed bananas, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Step 7: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Step 8: Fold in the chopped nuts evenly throughout the batter.
  • Step 9: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  • Step 10: Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Step 11: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
