Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

  • 1/2 cup salted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Cookie Layer:

  • 6 tablespoons salted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet, milk, or dark

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper if desired.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, melt the salted butter. Whisk in granulated sugar until well combined. Add eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it into an even layer. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened salted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in an egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix this into the wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer and gently spread it out.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until edges are set and a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then lift out using the parchment and slice into squares.
