Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef chuck
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ cup chopped celery
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ cup white distilled vinegar
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 14.5 ounces canned chopped tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 pieces hamburger buns

Instructions

  • Start by heating your skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef chuck, breaking it apart with your wooden spoon. Cook until it’s browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  • Once the beef is cooked, add the chopped celery, chopped onion, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.
  • Stir in the brown sugar, white distilled vinegar, ketchup, canned chopped tomatoes or tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix everything together until well combined.
  • Allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • While the Sloppy Joe mixture simmers, toast the hamburger buns if desired. This adds a nice crunch.
  • Once everything is heated through and well combined, spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture generously onto the bottom half of each bun, top with the other half, and serve immediately.
