Ingredients

For the Beef Mixture:

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp capers finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Assembly:

  • 4 slices sourdough bread toasted
  • 2 red onions sliced thinly
  • 3 tbsp capers drained
  • 4 tbsp pickled beetroot diced
  • 4 tsp horseradish freshly grated
  • 40 g butter for frying

Instructions

Instructions:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, egg yolks, Dijon mustard, finely chopped capers, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Heat 20g of butter in a frying pan over medium heat. Once melted, add the beef mixture. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with your spatula until browned and cooked through.
  • In the same frying pan, add the remaining 20g of butter and toast the sourdough slices until golden brown on both sides.
  • Place a generous amount of the cooked beef mixture on each slice of toasted sourdough. Top with sliced red onions, diced pickled beetroot, drained capers, and freshly grated horseradish.
  • Season with additional salt and pepper if desired, and serve immediately.

Equipment

  • Frying pan
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife and cutting board

Notes

  • Don’t overmix the beef mixture to avoid toughness.
  • Use a sturdy bread like sourdough or rye for the best texture.
  • Feel free to add fresh herbs for a seasonal twist!
