  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening or butter
  • 2/3 cup milk

Instructions

Directions:

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, cream of tartar, baking powder, and sugar until well combined.
  • Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the shortening into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Pour in the milk and stir gently until just combined.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it just a few times. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1-inch thick and cut it into rounds.
