Ingredients

For the Biscuits:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup cold butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons milk for brushing on top

Instructions

Method:

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • Step 3: Add the cold butter cubes to the dry mixture. Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step 4: Pour in the buttermilk, mixing gently until just combined.
  • Step 5: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it out to about 1-inch thickness, then cut out the biscuits.
  • Step 6: Transfer the cut biscuits to a lined baking sheet and brush the tops with milk.
  • Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and fluffy.
  • Step 8: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
